Efektivitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Etanol Daun Pepaya (Carica papaya L.) Terhadap Bakteri Staphylococcus aureus
Abstract
Papaya plant (Carica papaya L.) is widely used as a natural alternative medicine, including in the treatment of wounds caused by Staphylococcus aureus infection. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity of papaya leaf ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus and determine the most effective extract concentration in inhibiting bacterial growth using the disc diffusion method. This research is experimental with papaya leaf extract concentrations of 20%, 25%, and 30%. Chloramphenicol was used as positive control and DMSO 10% as negative control. The results showed that the ethanol extract of papaya leaves with concentrations of 20%, 25%, and 30% produced inhibition zones of 6.70 mm, 9.30 mm, and 11.22 mm, respectively. These results indicate that papaya leaf ethanol extract has potential as an antibacterial agent against Staphylococcus aureus, with the best effectiveness at 30% concentration.
