Abstract

Background. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease whose prevalence increases every year.
The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in South Sulawesi that has been diagnosed by a doctor is 1.3 percent with
the highest prevalence in Wajo district, namely 2.19 percent, then Makassar City 1.73 percent and followed by
Gowa District 1.07 with 4,339 people. Aim. Knowing the difference in HbA1c levels in type II DM patients with
and without hypertension at the Syekh Yusuf Regional General Hospital. Method. The research design used
was observational research with a cross sectional approach. This approach is carried out by measuring
outcomes and exposure to participants directly at the same time. Cross sectional aims to investigate cause and
effect relationships to analyze the relationship between risk factors. Researchers use a cross sectional study
design, namely a type of observational research that analyzes variable data collected at a certain point in time
across the entire sample population or a predetermined subset. The sampling technique in this research uses a
non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling approach. Bivariate analysis was carried out to
see the differences between the dependent variable and the independent variable. Bivariate analysis was
carried out using the chi square test to see whether there was a relationship between the independent variables
and the dependent variable. Results. From the results of the Mann-Whitney U test analysis, it was found that
the P value = 0.007 so that the P value < 0.05, so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted, that there was a
difference between HbA1c levels in Type 2 DM patients with and without hypertension at RSUD. Sheikh Yusuf.
